Remember how you started off the year with all of these wonderful goals that you wanted to accomplish? How you made a breakdown of each area of your life and envisioned certain levels of success in each one? I want you ask you something: How have you been doing on those? Are you making great strides or are you on the verge of tossing them away altogether because you feel as if you’ll never achieve what you want like others have?

There are times when we know our talents and capabilities, but we operate in the bad habit of using them to only a small percentage. We subconsciously place limits on ourselves because once we look around us and we see other people who are at a higher level doing things far better or in a more advanced capacity, and we begin to second guess what we have to offer. As s a result, we start slowly shying away from the very things that we were predestined to do on this earth.  Before long, we find that others who started behind us or with us are now near the finish line of success, while we are still standing in the gate. And the odd part is that over time, we convince ourselves that we are perfectly okay with that.

But, the question is………why???

Sure, you may not reach your desired success destination as quickly as others, but remember that you were born with something special inside of you which purpose is still to be fulfilled. One of my new favorite quotes is one that rap artist Common referenced by Nelson Mandela: “Your playing small does not serve the world.” In other words, the words ‘success’ and ‘low self-esteem and self-talk’ do not go together. At all.

Remember this: to get something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done. The time has come to break away from mediocrity and to stop hiding in the shadows and downplaying your capabilities. Step up to the plate and show the world what you are made of. Your time may not come right away, but if you don’t stay at it, your time will never come at all. The only way to ensure yourself of accomplishing what you want is to keep going strong.

Never be afraid to express your gifts and whole-heartedly pursue your life’s passion. Self-made millionaire and author Chris Gardner said it best: “If you want something, go get it. Period.” Living a ‘day-to-day’ life will not get you there. You can’t be scared of what people may say, nor be intimidated by what others are doing. Get up, get out there, and SHINE! Show the world who YOU truly are! Like Nike says, “Just Do It!” icon smile New Music from Melanie Fiona Pushes Us to Change the Game
