As part of the third annual NFL-USO Coaches Tour, Minnesota Vikings Coach Leslie Frazier spent the 4th of July holiday visiting the troops in Afghanistan. The efforts are part of a program whose mission is to give inspiration and improve morale for the active service members. What Frazier was unaware of is how much the visit would affect him just the same.
“I was expecting this to be an opportunity to boost their morale. But it’s actually been the other way. “They’ve been invigorating me. Just seeing their dedication, their focus, their sacrifice, it’s truly amazing how much of themselves they’re willing to give.” [Minnesota Star Tribune]
Another point that Coach Leslie Frazier mentioned is how seeing the conditions that the troops endure and some of the physical and emotional strains that they have, yet still manage to keep such positive attitudes made him more appreciative of what they do and boosted his morale about his own profession.
Rarely do we ever think about how much volunteerism or other small acts of kindness to others will benefit us, too. Your choosing to be encourage, uplift, or inspire someone else may do just the same for you without you even expecting it.
During the upcoming weekend, take a moment out of your schedule to volunteer your time to inspire someone that you feel may need it. Who knows: in doing so you may just find the inspiration you need, too.
