If you are reading this, then you see that there have been some recent changes to MELISASource.com—and if you have been following the blog for a while, then you also know that the designs and features that you see now are a far, FAR cry from my very humble beginnings.
When I launched in September of last year, I had a huge desire for it to be this awesomely-wonderful website right out of the gate. I looked around at what other fellow bloggers had with their websites, and I wanted that too. Right away. I did not want to wait. I wanted it all right then, right there. And when it didn’t happen that way, there were times when I would get discouraged.
Along the path of this journey however, I have had many stumbles—and those stumbles have taught me a very important lesson: that in life, there is no such thing as “express success”. When you start small and do a little bit at a time, you give yourself room to learn, to grow, to become a better version of your goal once you achieve it. All in all, it truly pays to walk and not run.
The race to greatness—or even goodness(if you’d like to call it that) is not always given to the swiftest, nor the strongest—it is given to the one who remains calm about the process, paces themselves and continues to make strides towards their desired destination.
Slow progress is better than no progress.
Slow down, take baby steps. Allow yourself to make mistakes and to learn from those mistakes. Quiet yourself and listen to your intuition, your heart, and your Creator to get guidance on the right moves to make. Do not get so caught up in what everyone else is doing and in other’s opinions of the rate of your progress that you lose sight of what it is that you want to achieve. Most importantly, never take your eyes off of the promise: the success that is guaranteed to you when you do things at the proper pace and in the proper way.
No doubt, I still have a long way to go, but use me and this journey as proof that with a lot of hard work and trial and error, you indeed can have whatever it is that you want in this life. All you have to do is focus and get yourself out of such a hurry to get it.

I also loved this post. I can relate to what you’re talking about here, my friend.
My journey has been side-tracked a few times looking at what other people had going on. It seemed as though I was stagnate, and not progressing as quickly as I would have liked, but what I had to acknowledge is what you’ve shared here – success takes time. And never should I measure my actions to what other’s are doing – or what it ‘appeared’ they might be doing.
I had to take my eyes off of my fellow bloggers and realize that this was (and will never be) a competition for me. It is me building a career as an author. If for one second I take my eyes off of the prize, I may just lose the race against myself – which I know is very easy for me to do. How do I know? I’ve done it far too many times already.
I really enjoyed the message on today’s Music Monday, and loved the selection you chose, as well. Ms. Kierra is growing up to be an incredible young lady… I haven’t heard her since her first time at the mic with her mother, Karen. Her voice is just as powerful!
Thanks for sharing this with us, Makeba. This is definitely one that many of us fellow bloggers are in need of reading. However, it’s certainly not one just for bloggers, but anyone who is stepping out and trying to ‘make things happen for themselves.’

Amen to that! I think that’s seeming to be the toughest lesson of all: finding that “perfect balance” between supporting others and having those that to admire and use as a mentor/guide for your own path while not becoming so overly influenced by them that you lose sight of your own path and uniqueness. And you are right: this doesn’t just apply to the world of Blogging, but to all industries. I mean, think about it: how many times have we seen in the entertainment industry the very same thing? Or even in the corporate world or school environment? Maintaining that balance is like walking a tightrope, but if we want to build, improve, and reach our desired goals, we have no choice but to walk it. It’s truly a challenge, but I’ve found that mostly all challenges end up being well worth going through in the end.
