Entertainment mogul Tyler Perry continues to use his life to inspire others that anything is indeed possible.
Earlier this week he posted a video to his website showing him flying a private plane.
What’s so special about that, you ask? In the video Tyler Perry shares how the events from 9/11 made him (like many others) extremely fearful of flying; and how he considered using a tour bus to travel instead. Yet, once he realized how many opportunities he may miss due to prolonged travel times, he knew that he had to do something to overcome his fears. He shows his process of starting small and eventually building his way up step by step, until he was completely unafraid to fly.
In watching this video clip, I thought about how many times we shortchange ourselves out of opportunities and professional/personal growth simply because of fear. We are afraid of something, afraid of someone, or flat out afraid to try. I know I have had plenty of moments where an opportunity arose and I focused more on the possible negative outcomes than I did the possible positive ones. There was even a time when I too was scared to death of planes and flying, even prior to 9/11. Like Tyler, I started myself off small with a 40 minute flight and built from there. Now I absolutely love it. There are so many amazing experiences that I’ve had that never would have been had I not overcame my fear of planes.
Watch this video from Tyler Perry, and think about some of the things that you are afraid of. Then think about all of the opportunities you have missed because of that fear. I encourage you today to take a small step towards conquering the fears that you have, and continue to make more and more steps every day or as much as you can. You will find that a whole new wonderful world awaits when you fly above your fears.
