The Amy Winehouse Inspiration Awards has announced that it will honor the legendary Tony Bennett and rap artist Nas.
The awards, established by the parents of Amy Winehouse, the beloved English singer who died unexpectedly in 2011, is their way of honoring Amy’s legacy by giving acknowledgement to those whose works and achievements have inspired greatness in others.
Tony Bennett, a legend in his own right, collaborated with Amy Winehouse on his 2011 cd release, “Duets II”. He donated a portion of the proceeds from the album to the Foundation in Amy’s honor.
Nas, a rapper from New York, also worked with Amy prior to her passing. One of their songs, “Cherry Wine” is featured on Nas’ recent project “Life Is Good.” In addition to receiving the award, Nas will also perform at the gala event.
A third award recipient—music producer Salaam Remi—will also be in attendance.
The awards and gala are part of a newly-expanded branch of the Amy Winehouse Foundation, a nonprofit organization which provides support for charitable activities in education and the arts to help ill and otherwise disadvantaged children in the UK and abroad.
The Amy Winehouse Inspiration Awards and gala will take place on October 11, 2012 in New York City at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel.
