R&B singer and humanitarian John Legend made a special visit to Stockard Middle School in Dallas Texas to give an inspiring back to school message on the importance of education. The 33 year-old award Grammy winner was on hand as an ambassador for the Teach for America program, an organization whose mission is to recruit top college students to teach in low-income communities.
A $5,000 donation to the school’s music program was also presented during Legend’s visit; a collaborative effort with Teach for America and JC Penny’s “JCP Cares” initiative.
John Legend takes raising awareness for education and the arts very seriously.
“I believe in the American dream, the idea that no matter where you’re from, you should have the opportunity to succeed here and be whoever you want to be.” [DallasNews]
Kudos to John Legend for shining a spotlight on the importance of education and the arts in schools!
