Where there is smoke, there is fire—but in this case, the fire is something good.

 .

During the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting in New York City, legendary Motown singer Smokey Robinson announced the launch of Smoke Alarm, an initiative designed to drive global awareness and action for under-publicized social needs and causes across social media platforms.

 .

The function of Smoke Alarm is similar to an online emergency broadcast system. When a need is identified, Smokey Robinson will “sound the Smoke Alarm.” From there, those who are connected to the Smoke Alarm network will receive notification and will be urged to use their Facebook, Twitter, and other social media platforms to spread awareness and calls to action to their connections, encouraging them to “get the fire going” and spread the word also. With the creation of this special network, Smokey ensures that everyone—everywhere—can get involved and make a difference.

Celebrities such as LMFAO, Elton John, Brandy, Hilary Duff, Rob Thomas, and more have already added their voices to the 44 million-plus members on the network, and the count continues to grow.

The first “alarm sound” was for a campaign with Proctor and Gamble to raise awareness for their Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program.

Smoke Alarm is such an awesome initiative and a great way for people all over the world to be able to serve as a voice for the voiceless in social needs around the globe. I have joined the network and “added my voice” to sounding the Smoke Alarm – I hope that you will join me!

Way to go Smokey!
