At Sunday’s Sprint Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway, NASCAR racer Danica Patrick learned the cost of revenge the hard way.

While she was trying to cause fellow racer Landon Cassill to crash by pressuring his rear bumper, her car ended up slamming into a wall. Cassill’s car only went into a brief spin and he was able to regain control to continue the race.

Before crashing, Danica Patrick was in the top 20 of the race. Because of the crash, she finished at 32nd. Cassill on the other hand, finished the race at 18th.

 .

My situation with [Cassill] is really a product of frustration,” Patrick said. “He got into me on the front straight and said I was just in the way. That’s really no good reason to hit me. If it’s one time, I can imagine it’s frustration, but it’s been quite a few times with him. At some point I have to stand up for myself so this doesn’t happen with other people. I chose today. The bummer about it is that my car is out, and he’s still out there going.” [Yahoo]

The last statement that Danica made – I could not have said it better myself.

 .

This is the very thing that almost always happens in cases of revenge—the person attempting retaliation ends up hurting themselves far more than the person who was the target of it. The person aiming for revenge winds up ‘sitting on the sidelines‘ of life both physically and emotionally, while the person whom the hurt was intended is ‘out there still going‘. ~A huge cost to pay for a situation that was not even yours to ‘settle’ to begin with (I’ll explain what I mean later).

 .

Revenge is unhealthy, wrong, and downright unbecoming of anyone who claims to have a high love and belief in themselves, their goals, and their abilities. Additionally, it is also a huge waste of time and energy.

 .

Just think about Danica’s situation for a moment: what if she would have focused solely on doing her best in the race rather than trying to ‘get back’ at Cassill? She would have placed in the top 20. Who know, she may have even had a chance to place even higher….

 .

But her perspective was off.  And for that she is now paying the price.

 .

Whenever someone does something to us that we feel is wrong, it is not our job to try to get revenge. Our number one priority is to keep our focus on ourselves and what it is that we are doing or wanting to accomplish. Karma is real—both good and bad, and whatever actions people put out into the Universe towards others returns back to them ten-fold.

 .

So remember:

 .

When someone wrongs you, there is absolutely no action needed on your part—trust me.

 .

When you allow outside distractions—and especially the actions of others—to get your mind and actions off track, you end up losing in the long-run.

.

The next time you contemplate trying to get revenge on someone for something that has been done or said to you or about you, think about NASCAR racer Danica Patrick and her experience. Always keep in mind that revenge at any level always comes with a cost—a cost that you may not be too happy about having to pay.
