Rihanna is operating in the spirit of giving this Holiday season. On Saturday, the star donated $1.75 million dollars to the radiotherapy department of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados in memory of her late grandmother, Clara “Dolly” Braithwaite, who died from cancer earlier this year.
.
According to hospital officials, the donation was made through Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation and will assist in the acquisition of vital equipment needed to assist in the treatment of gynecological cancers.
.
The 24 year-old singer visited the hospital Saturday accompanied by her mother Monica Fenty, and Dolly’s husband Lionel.
.
Speaking at the renaming ceremony of the department to The Clara Brathwaite Centre for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine, Rihanna expressed that the donation was her way of giving back to her country in the form of philanthropy stating: “This was all done to save lives or at least extend them.”
