First Lady Michelle Obama has joined forces with five major media companies and the social photo-pinning site Pinterest to work together to make finding nutritious and budget-friendly family recipes much easier.
The media companies: Hearst Magazines, Conde Nast, Meredith Corp., the Food Network and Time Inc., have found over 3,000 recipes that meet federal nutrition guidelines for how much fruit, vegetables, protein and grains should be included in each meal. As part of the initiative, the companies are promoting the recipes on their cooking websites, with thousands having already been posted on a new page created on Pinterest. The First Lady believes that the partnership will take the “guess work” and hassle out of parents finding healthier meals to make for their families.
The collaboration is being done in conjunction with of Mrs. Obama’s anti-childhood obesity initiative “Let’s Move.” The program marked its third anniversary this month, which celebrated by traveling to the states of Chicago, Mississippi, and Missouri as part of a special “Let’s Move! 3rd anniversary” tour. During her travels, she met with elementary students and staff, announced the Let’s Move Healthy Schools initiative, filmed a lunch-lady cook off with chef and personality Rachael Ray, and visited a Walmat neighborhood market to see changes that have been made to make healthy foods more accessible and affordable to families.
