I am reaching out to you today on a personal level asking your help and support for a person that is very special to me.
 .
This request costs you nothing — only your online signature.
 .
My brother has been teaching for over 2 decades. He has won numerous teaching awards throughout his career. Every time I visit him in his city, we cannot get far without him being warmly recognized and praised by a current or former student or parent. He has impacted so many lives in a positive way.
 .
His commitment to providing a quality education to his students, as well as his impeccable character inspires me to be my personal best everyday. During times when life gets tough for me, the thought of my brother’s fortitude helps me to stay motivated.
 .
My brother’s dedication and passion for education inspired my oldest son to pursue a career in teaching himself. My brother is not only my son’s mentor, he is the best Uncle there could ever be.

Me and my brother – just hanging out 🙂
.
 .
For the past twelve years, he has taught at Tarkington School of Excellence in Chicago, Illinois, where he is now the only African American teacher left in the entire school. For the past few years – but especially this year – his has been picked on constantly by administrators, and now his job is in jeopardy.
 .

My brother is one of six teachers in the Chicago Public School (CPS) system who is being targeted by administrators and politicians for removal.

 .
An online petition has been launched to help support my brother in his fight to keep his job within CPS. He is 561 signatures short of the 1,000 needed for the petition to be fulfilled.
.

I come to you humbly and kindly, asking that you please help by reading and signing the online petition, and passing it on to others who believe in fairness and diversity in educators for children.

 .
Additionally, more awareness is needed on this situation. If there is any way that you can please help in that area — be it by sharing on social media (hashtag: #CTU6) or notifying news and media outlets — that would be wonderful.
 .
 .
I have included links to the online petition and related articles and sources.
 .
Please help in any way that you can.

That is sad to see someone who obviously loves their job be in this situation. Hopefully things turn out for the better and he can keep it.

I am so sorry you are going through this and will definitely sign! Will be sharing as well!

Why does he need to be removed from his position this way. It’s discrimination at its finest and it’s terrible what they’re doing to him. It’s infuriating too.

  • Amanda Love

I cannot believe that people would do this to such an honorable man. I’m sorry that he has to go through this and I’ll definitely sign.

It’s great that you are able to use your platform to share what is happening to your brother. Otherwise things like this could happen without any pushback. I will sign.

  • Kelly Hutchinson

I hate to her that your brother is experiencing this. We should be lifting up our educators instead of targeting them and tearing them down.

  • I’m sorry this has been happening to your brother. I will sign! I’m glad you have this platform to share the story.

  • Oh my, I am so sorry that he is going through this! Signed and anything else that I can do to help, I will.

  • Done and done. I live in Chicagoland, and I frequently see stories of the CPD and their mistreatment of teachers. Best of luck to your brother.

I am so sorry to hear this happening and I hope everything works out. I will make sure that I pass this along.
